Luca Ionescu

Luca Ionescu may occasionally have a hair out of place, but never a pixel–his crisp logos and knife-sharp illustrations are economical and beautiful, boldly announcing that this is the modern world and he intends to make use of its every technology. Ionescu’s list of corporate commissions runs long and strong: Uniqlo, Coke, Absolut, and MTV among them. Clients like him ’cos he’s on time and on his grind, but everyone likes him because he rarely does the same thing twice.

Recent projects have included quite a lot of laser-etching; Ionescu owns a machine, and has used it to created limited edition posters and specially-marked skate decks. He’s also working in a new chromed-out style that can be seen on designs for RVCA and a shimmering skull shirt he’s got going with Andy Howell’s Arts Projekt Labz. Not to forget the usual suite of motion graphics promos and creative reels he’s churning out, plus the gallery shows and parties he curates under the banner of Refill Mag, the collectible art journal he publishes (currently on hiatus). All in a 36-hour day’s work for this type of guy–or, should we say, this guy of type.
