Bwana Spoons

From his treehouse in verdant Portland, Oregon, the bearded wonder known as Bwana Spoons cooks up all sorts of characters cute and mystical, including Globby and Dolly the Dolphin. By day, Spoons works from his art gallery/store the Grass Hut, alongside a regular crew of art co-conspirators that includes Scrappers, Martin Ontiveros, APAK, and Le Merde. By night he dreams up secret societies, like SARS (Skulls and Rainbones Society), for friends to join.

Spoons has a constant stream of new projects. Currently, these include skate decks and tees for Foundation, a gallery show at SF’s Doublepunch, Valentine’s day cards and a special Dolly toy, and the Rainbowsaurus figurine (handpainted for LA’s Switcheroo). In between Googling tapirs and taking cat naps, he’s also working on a collaboration with Gargamel toy company from Japan and a new book/zine called Nerdmess, due out March 13.
