Brian Roettinger

SoCal hardcore fans have been familiar with Brian Roettinger’s work for at least a decade now via his Handheldheart record label, which put out Liars, Pretty Girls Make Graves, Die Monitr Batss, and Chromatics before everyone got hyped on them. These days, Roettinger still traffics in Los Angeles’ post-hardcore scene, but now it’s graphic design that’s his main grind.

Roettinger’s probably best known for his cover art for Liars, Steve Aoki, and No Age; he was recently nominated for a Grammy for his cover design of No Age’s Nouns. His sharp typography and striking layouts can also be seen at L.A. galleries like Hope and Space 15 Twenty, and in the cutting-edge catalogs and programs he designs for his day job at Sci-ARC, the Southern California Institute of Architecture. Ever a champion of the City of Angels, Roettinger also recently helped design the identity for Downtown LA’s Gallery Row.
